Tamworth Regional Council to host public meeting on $2.8 million redevelopment of Treloar Park

Residents will have their questions answered about the project, while the council will outline what the works will entail.

Half of the project’s funding comes via the federal government’s Building Better Regions Fund, while the other half will be split between the Wests League Club ($975,000), Tamworth Regional Council ($225,000) and Tennis NSW ($200,000).

North West Tennis Academy’s Jarrod Campbell said the upgrade would open up the club to exciting new possibilities.

“To be honest, I’m ultra excited to see this redevelopment get under way,” Campbell said.

“There’s been a lot of hard work done behind the scenes by Wests, the council and Tennis NSW to help make this happen.

“The plan takes in the clubhouse and the courts, so it will really do a lot for the community.”

Campbell said the redevelopment would help the sport grow in the region.

“The upgrade will see us go from 11 courts to 13, which will allow us to host a variety of new tournaments,” he said.

“Those tournaments will bring in more people to the sport and will bring more people to the region, which will have great economic impacts.

“It’s very exciting times for our sport in our region at the moment.”

Campbell said the new facility would offer “something for everyone”.

“A lot of the new courts will be hard courts, which is the same surface the Australian Open is played on,” he said.

“That will allow us to host ITF level events and will open up opportunities for us to host more junior, senior and veterans tournaments.

“Basically, we have recently only been operating with six courts because some of our surfaces are too worn out to use.

“By adding these new courts we will still offer some surfaces which are suitable for our strong contingent of social players.

“Honestly, once these works are complete, there really will be something for everyone.”

Saturday’s meeting will run from 10am to 11am at the clubhouse.
